NEW YORK GALLERY CLOSURES & MOVES 2025–2026
The New York art world continues to evolve as galleries respond to rising rents, shifting collector habits, and broader changes in the global art market.
In 2025 and early 2026, a number of galleries have closed, relocated, or changed their operations across Tribeca, Chelsea, and the Lower East Side. While some closures reflect ongoing market pressures, others signal a transition toward more flexible models and new locations.
As in other major art cities, some galleries are adapting through shared spaces, pop-up exhibitions, art fairs, and appointment-only viewing. Despite these changes, New York remains one of the world’s leading centers for contemporary art, with continued openings and a steady flow of exhibitions throughout the city.
This page tracks recent gallery closures, relocations, and operational changes across New York City. Please note that it can be difficult to catch every change. If you know of any updates, please let us know.
